Glasgow kitchens are rarely a blank rectangle. A West End tenement kitchen is usually long, narrow and holding a chimney breast it cannot lose, while a Southside main-door flat might have a good-sized room with the plumbing stuck in the worst corner of it. Most of the design work here is about what cannot move.

Working around what the building gives you

In a traditional Glasgow flat the soil stack position, the chimney breast and the window are fixed points, and the cost of a kitchen changes enormously depending on whether your layout respects them. Moving a sink to the opposite wall in a top-floor tenement means a drainage run with a fall on it, and that often means a bulkhead. We will always price that honestly rather than discover it halfway through.

What we can usually do without touching the services is get more usable worktop out of the room. Tall units instead of a fridge sitting in a gap, a run of drawers instead of a cupboard you have to kneel in front of, and a properly planned corner rather than a dead one. Those three changes alone make more difference day to day than a change of door colour.

Ceiling height is an asset, not a problem

Tenement ceilings give you a lot of wall above head height that most kitchens waste. Taking wall units to the cornice rather than stopping at the standard 720mm gives real storage back, and the gap it removes is the one that collects dust and nothing else. It needs a scribed filler and a bit of patience where the ceiling is not level, which it rarely is in a building of that age.

Getting it up the stairs

A practical point specific to this city: if you are on the third floor of a close with a half landing, the units have to come up in boxes and the old ones have to go down the same way. We plan deliveries around that and take the rip-out away rather than filling the back court with it. It sounds minor until it is your neighbours.

Kitchen Renovation FAQs

How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Glasgow?+

Cost depends on the size of the kitchen, the brand and finish you choose, and whether structural work is needed. We supply and fit a range of brands to suit different budgets, so get in touch for a free, no-obligation quote based on your space.

Do you just fit kitchens, or design them too?+

Both. We design a kitchen layout suited to your lifestyle and space, then supply and fit it, from a complete new kitchen to smaller adaptations like a worktop replacement.

How long does a kitchen fitting take?+

A full kitchen renovation typically takes one to three weeks depending on scope, whether walls or plumbing are being altered, and lead times on cabinets and worktops. We'll give you a realistic timeline during your consultation.

Which parts of Glasgow do you cover for kitchen fitting?+

We fit kitchens across the West End, Southside and greater Glasgow area, as well as Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, in everything from tenement flats to detached family homes.

Can you fit a kitchen in a tenement flat without a bulkhead?+

Often yes, if the sink and appliances stay broadly where the existing drainage is. A bulkhead is usually only needed when a waste run has to travel a long way to reach the stack with enough fall. We will tell you which category your flat falls into at the consultation rather than after the units are ordered.
