Giffnock's inter-war villas and bungalows were built with one small bathroom, often with a separate toilet next door. The most useful thing a renovation here can do is rethink that space rather than put a new suite in the same places.
Joining the bathroom and separate WC
Where the toilet is in its own small room beside the bathroom, taking the wall between them out usually turns two cramped rooms into one that fits a proper shower. The partition is rarely structural, and the drainage for the toilet is already there, so it is less work than people expect.
Bungalow bathrooms
In a bungalow the bathroom is on the ground floor with the roof space above it, which makes extraction and lighting straightforward and leaves room to reroute pipework under the floor. It is often possible to swap a bath for a walk-in shower without raising the floor.
Older pipework
In the older houses we expect to find a mix of original and replaced pipework. We look at it during the strip-out and replace what needs replacing before the walls are closed up, because once the new finish is on, going back in is expensive.
Wet wall or tiles
