Hanging a door well is mostly about the opening rather than the door. In Paisley's older housing the linings have usually moved, been packed out badly at some point, or were never square to begin with, and that is what decides whether a new door closes with a click or needs a shove.
Getting the lining right first
If the lining is twisted, a perfectly good door will bind at one corner and show a tapering gap at the other. Correcting or re-packing the lining before the door goes on is the part of the job that is invisible afterwards and the part that determines whether you are happy with it.
Standard sizes and the ones that are not

Handles, hinges and locks are what you physically touch every day, and cheap ones announce themselves quickly. Three hinges rather than two on a heavier door, a properly let-in mortice lock and handles with some weight to them cost a little more per door and are the thing people notice.
External doors
Composite and uPVC external doors are fitted, adjusted and sealed properly, with the reveals made good inside and out. A new front or back door that has been foamed in and left unpointed is a draught and a damp problem waiting to happen.
