Renfrew is largely settled housing from the middle of the last century onwards, which means the joinery work here is mostly replacement rather than first-time fitting: doors that have swollen, floors that were laid over the top of something else, and internal woodwork on its third coat of gloss.
Doors that have never quite worked
A door that catches at the top corner has usually not warped. The frame has moved, or the hinges were never let in squarely, and planing the door is treating the symptom. We would rather rehang it properly, or pack and re-let the hinges, than take material off a door that will then rattle in summer.
What is under the floor
Houses of this age frequently have three layers: original boards, hardboard, and whatever went down in the nineties. Taking it back to a sound base matters, because a new floor laid over a springy or uneven one telegraphs every fault in a couple of years. We would rather spend half a day on preparation than have you call us back.
Outside as well as in
Being close to the Clyde, external timber here takes a beating. Fencing, gates and decking all need pressure-treated material, posts set properly and end grain kept out of standing water. We cover the outside joinery as readily as the inside, and it is often the more urgent of the two.
