Renfrew's housing runs from older flats around the town centre to the family houses built across the middle of the last century and the newer homes down by the river. The kitchens in each have different problems, so the first conversation is about which one you have.
Flats near the town centre
In the older flats the room is usually fixed in size and the services are fixed in place, so the design work is about storage and worktop space rather than a new layout. Full-height units, drawers in place of deep cupboards and a properly planned corner make a small kitchen work much harder.
Mid-century family houses
Many of Renfrew's family houses have a narrow kitchen with the back door partway along a wall, which breaks up the one run of worktop you have. Moving that door, or turning the layout so it is no longer in the way, often does more for the room than spending extra on the finish.
Newer homes by the river
Newer builds usually come with a developer kitchen that is fine for a few years and then starts to show its budget: swollen edges, thin worktops and hinges that no longer hold. The walls are straight and the services are modern, so replacing it is straightforward and a good kitchen goes a long way in these rooms.
