Most of Erskine was built from the 1970s onwards, and a lot of those houses share a layout: a compact kitchen at the back, often with a hatch or a door through to the living or dining room. The newer estates built since then have larger kitchens but builder-grade fittings.
Opening up the 1970s kitchen
In the original housing, the wall between the kitchen and the dining area is often a partition rather than a structural wall. Taking it out, or widening the opening, turns a cramped galley into a kitchen you can sit in. We check the wall before anything is planned, and if it turns out to be structural we will explain what that involves and what it costs.
Replacing a builder's kitchen
On the newer estates the room is usually a good size and the walls are square, which makes fitting quick. What tends to need replacing is the kitchen itself: thin carcasses, laminate worktops and a layout designed to be cheap to install. A better kitchen in the same footprint makes a big difference for a sensible budget.
Utility space
Where there is a garage or a spare corner, moving the washing machine and dryer out of the kitchen frees up worktop and cuts down the noise. We can fit a small utility area as part of the same job.
